Question 1

Why not just use Print to PDF?

Accepted Answer

Print to PDF gives you the cookie banner across the first page, the navigation on every page, and whatever the print stylesheet decided to do — which on many sites is nothing at all. Here the adverts and consent dialogue are blocked before the page renders, so they are not in the PDF because they were never on the page.

Question 2

Does it capture the whole page or just what is visible?

Accepted Answer

The whole scrollable document. Capturing only the viewport is the single most common defect in screenshot APIs, and it is a setting rather than a limitation.

Question 3

Can I get a PNG instead?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and also the article as markdown, plain text or cleaned HTML. All five come from the same single page load and cost the same one credit. The tool on this page gives you the markdown and the first three pages of the PDF for nothing; PNG is on the paid call.

Question 4

Is this the same as evidence capture?

Accepted Answer

No, and the difference matters. This removes adverts and banners to give you a readable page. Evidence capture deliberately keeps them, because a screenshot with the trackers filtered out is not what the visitor saw — it also hashes and timestamps what it captured, and retains it. Two different products for two different purposes.
