This vs CloudConvert

CloudConvert is the incumbent in file conversion and it is a good product. Here is where each of us wins, including the places we do not.

Where CloudConvert wins

Formats, by a wide margin. They advertise over 200; this API handles 26. If your pair is not in our list, they very likely have it, and no amount of argument about methodology changes that.

They also have webhooks, output straight to S3, Azure and GCS, and a job API for chaining several operations into one request. If your workload is a pipeline rather than a conversion, that is a real difference and it favours them.

Where this wins

You can see the price before you buy. A conversion here is one credit — $0.030 on the $14.99 pack, 500 of them. CloudConvert’s amounts come from an interactive slider rather than a published table, so there is no figure of theirs to put in this sentence.

A big file does not cost more. They charge at least one credit per conversion and another for every minute past the first, so a long video or a large document costs a multiple of the headline. One credit here is one conversion, whatever it takes to do it.

Every pair listed was measured. The 317 pairs on this site come from running the converter and recording what worked, not from writing down what ought to. A pair that is missing is missing rather than quietly broken, which is the failure mode of a long advertised format list.

Where it is a draw

Expiry. This site argues hard that credits should not expire, and CloudConvert’s one-time packages are marked Never expire on their own pricing page. Their subscription credits do reset monthly with no carry-over, and ours have no end date in any document — but on a package-to-package comparison this is close to level, and claiming otherwise would be the kind of thing you would catch in five minutes.

Try it here, free, right now

One file, no account, nothing stored. This is the same converter the API runs, at a smaller size cap.

Convert Word (.docx) to PDF

Free, no signup, no credit charged. One file at a time.

This one sends your file. The converters are pandoc, LibreOffice and calibre, and none of them runs in a browser. Your document is converted in memory and deleted when the request ends — nothing is written to disk, logged or kept.

Every other pair · what it costs. CloudConvert figures checked 2026-09-08, from their own pages.
